Why you should adopt a weekly self-care routine for you hair.

Like a skin care routine, a haircare routine can have many beneficial effects. It can prevent hair loss, moisturize a dry scalp, fix dry hair. Moreover, air particles attach themselves to your hair (like cigarette smoke and pollution), and notably to the natural oil in your hair, the sebum, so it is essential to design a haircare routine that will help you get rid of this regular occurrence.
Of course, like any self-care routine, it has to be paired with healthy meals and a healthy lifestyle. In many ways, hair care products are similar to skincare products, as they use the same ingredients, and have the same goal, so you already know what you are in for.

What are the steps for healthy self-care hair routine?

1. Exfoliate

Your hair, like your skin, hosts sebaceous glands responsible for the production of sebum in your hair. Like your skin, your scalp can get oily or dry. When it gets too oily, it can lead to the appearance of dandruff. Regularly exfoliating your scalp will help get rid of these flakes and ease your anxiety over their existence, as well as preventing hair loss and hair thinning. The hair products you are using can stay caught in your scalp and end up clogging your hair follicles. By failing to properly remove them from your hair, you will let them build up in your follicles which can prevent your hair from growing.

How to do it?

First you should gently stroke your scalp with a teasing brush as to loosen the debris on your scalp. Afterwards, apply the exfoliating mask. You can also replace these steps by using a shampoo with a built-in exfoliator. When it is done, you can follow your usual routine by rinsing your hair and applying your usual conditioner.

2. Use micellar shampoo to remove dirt and unwanted oils without drying your hair out

Using the same shampoo over and over without switching it up may not give the results you would think. It can also strip your hair from healthy necessary oils, and despite using it to clean your hair, it does not do the job entirely, and leaves unwanted, hard-to-remove dirt in your locks.

The solution you should think about is using a micellar shampoo. This type of shampoo uses micelles, which are micro-particles that naturally trap dirt and unwanted oils.

3. Use hair masks for different parts of your hair

Using a hair mask is essential to get healthy hair as it contains the same elements that are found in skincare products such as kaolin clay and charcoal. You can imagine them as a better, more powerful version of your conditioner, but it is actually even more than that!

They will deeply nourish and repair your hair. For colored hair, it can help you enhance the vibrancy of your hair. It can also fixes frizzy, damaged, dry hair, or ensure fast hair growth but you have to figure out which type of mask works best for your type of hair. For example, if you have an oily scalp paired with dry ends, you may have to use different types of masks for the different parts of your hair to achieve maximum result.

4. Use sleeping masks

Products take a while to penetrate your hair, which is why you should invest in sleeping hair masks, that will act overnight, and leave you with freshly repaired hair in the morning. Most of them come with a bonnet so you don’t have to fear damaging your pillow.

Of course you can find different kinds on the market that are adapted to different types of hair.

Adding up to this, you should also follow some simple guidelines to improve your chance of keeping a perfect, healthy hair.

Do not wash your hair too often, every other day to 3 times a week should prevent your hair from getting stripped from its natural healthy oil. It is more beneficial rinsing your hair in cold water if you can stand it or in lukewarm water as it will help to keep its natural shine. We recommend untangling your hair with a wide-tooth comb, and do not rub your hair with a towel after getting out of the shower. Instead, pat your hair with a towel and let it dry naturally at room temperature.
